MEET THE CREATOR
At DevFortress, we set out to solve a common challenge in remote meetings: the lack of a shared, visual space for ideas to take shape. With the Collaborative Whiteboard, we created a solution that empowers users to express, brainstorm, and build together visually right inside their meeting environment. We designed it for speed, clarity, and ease of use, with functionality tailored to creative teams, educators, and agile thinkers alike.
THE CHALLENGE
Virtual meetings often miss the visual spontaneity and shared creativity that a physical whiteboard provides. We needed to replicate this experience while keeping performance high and user onboarding frictionless. Additionally, we wanted to ensure the tool was intuitive enough for anyone to use, yet powerful enough for complex diagrams and collaborative sketching sessions all without ever leaving Google Meet.
SOLUTION & RESULTS
We built the Collaborative Whiteboard using React on the frontend, with a lightweight and responsive UI. The backend architecture runs on Express and MongoDB, handling live session data and real-time user sync. To power the drawing experience, we integrated Excalidraw, an open-source drawing tool that gave us the flexibility to support anything from sticky notes to technical diagrams. The result is a robust, elegant whiteboarding solution that feels like a natural extension of Google Meet. It’s become a favorite for educators, product teams, and visual thinkers across the board.
